THE COLLECTION

The TALIM Research Library is one of the most important libraries specializing on Morocco with over 10,000 works in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese. Our collection includes books, theses, monographs, periodicals, microfilms, maps, newspapers, and photographs. Of particular note are more than 100 antique maps of the Mediterranean region; a bound newspaper collection (Tangier Gazette) covering the period 1884–1906; American consular correspondence with the Department of State (1797–1906) stored on microfilm; and traveler accounts (17th to the 19th century); the official bulletin of the Protectorate period (1913–1942); a section on Operation Torch (the Allied landings in North Africa in 1942), and more. Our doors are open, upon appointment, to all who are interested in exploring our archives.

THE BUILDING

The library is (normally) located in a 3-story building of 18th century origin attached to the Museum. With a central atrium, exposed wood-timbered ceilings, and Moroccan décor, the Research Library is one of the most traditional sections of the Legation. In May 2023, we were forced to evacuate the collection and employees from the Library due to stability concerns. With the Fund to Conserve, we are actively fundraising to repair the library and return the collection to its home.

THE LOCATION

The Research Library is temporarily located in the “Annex” while repairs and renovations are undertaken. The Annex is a 5–10 minute walk from the Legation in the same building as Le Centre Dentaire Medina. Follow the signs to the first floor, #12.
